The Sunny Side Up Children’s Film Festival was dreamed up and created by Tauranga local Milli, who wanted to bring a little more colour, laughter, and magic to the big screen for kids. What started as a small idea has now grown into a joyful tradition that kids look forward to every year.

Sunny Side Up is all about celebrating short, animated films made for children from around the world. These films spark imagination, giggles, and wide-eyed wonder. But this isn’t your ordinary cinema trip. The festival is interactive, playful, and full of surprises – with games, prizes, and lots of moments to get kids involved in the fun.

Now in its 5th year, Sunny Side Up has become a highlight of the school holidays in Tauranga. And in 2026, the festival will be spreading its wings to tour across Aotearoa, bringing the sunny spirit to families in Hamilton, Auckland, and Christchurch.
